Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson has hit out at the Glastonbury festival in an interview with the Telegraph, declaring it “the most bourgeois thing on the planet.”

The singer said that Iron Maiden have no intention of ever playing at Glastonbury, which for the first time in it’s history announced a heavy metal headline act for this year’s event in the form of Metallica.

“In the days when Glasto was an alternative festival it was quite interesting,” said Dickinson. “Now it’s the most bourgeois thing on the planet. Anywhere Gwyneth Paltrow goes and you can live in an air-conditioned yurt is not for me.”

He added that he was pleased that Maiden will be headlining this year’s Sonisphere metal festival instead, saying: “”We’ll leave the middle classes to do Glastonbury and the rest of the great unwashed will decamp to Knebworth and drink lots of beer and have fun.”

Glastonbury takes place between the 27th and 29th of June at Worthy Farm in Somerset, with Sonisphere following between the 4th and 6th of July at Knebworth Park.
