Wilko Johnson has revealed that he has been ‘cured’ of his cancer.

The former Dr.Feelgood guitarist was diagnosed with terminal cancer of the pancreas in 2012 and refused to undergo chemotherapy treatment, instead deciding to make the most of his remaining time, calmly “accepting that I was going to die.”

But speaking at the Q Awards last night, Johnson revealed that he had undergone radical surgery to remove the tumour after a doctor contacted him saying that “something strange” must be going on if he was still alive.

New tests and consultations at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge revealed that Johnson had very rare form of tumour, and surgery then followed in April of this year.

“It was an 11-hour operation,” Johnson said in London last night.

“This tumour weighed 3kg – that’s the size of a baby,” he continued. “Anyway, they got it all. They cured me.”

“It’s so weird and so strange that it’s kind of hard to come to terms with it in my mind. Now, I’m spending my time gradually coming to terms with the idea that my death is not imminent, that I am going to live on.”

Johnson’s operation also involved the removal of his pancreas, spleen, part of his stomach, small and large intestines and the removal and reconstruction of blood vessels relating to the liver.
