Baroness share video for ‘Shock Me’ ahead of North American tour dates

Baroness Shock Me vid cap

Baroness have issued a video for their track “Shock Me.”

The song features on the band’s most recent album, Purple, released last December and one of Skin Back Alley’s Top Albums Of 2015.

Filmed in rural Pennsylvania, the clip was directed by Don Tyler and Baroness’ own John Baizley. The cryptic, dream-like imagery plays with shades of colour and the balance of power between the two women depicted in the video.

Baroness spoke out about an alleged sexual assault that took place at one of their gigs during their recent run of UK tour dates. The band embark upon a run of North American shows later this month.

Baroness speak out following alleged sexual assault of fan at Birmingham UK show

Baroness Dec 2015

Baroness have spoken out in a lengthy statement following the alleged sexual assault of a fan at their recent show in Birmingham in the UK.

Blogger Rosie Solomon, writing of her experience via the Redbrick website, says she was subjected to a sustained assault at the Birmingham O2 Institute whilst attending Baroness’ gig there on the 29th of February.

Solomon details how she was left feeling “shaken, angry, upset, confused” after a man deliberately and repeatedly thrust his groin into her leg and made a suggestive comment. She reported the incident to venue staff and then the police.

Baroness say in their statement: “The man detailed in this article, whoever you are, if you read this post, stay the fuck away from Baroness and our audience. We don’t need you at our show, we don’t want you in our audience.

“We have no tolerance for sexism, or any form of intolerant or insensitive behaviour. In Baroness’ real, functioning touring-world, we are witness to daily proof-by-example that gender exerts no weight on the scales of capability, strength or intelligence.

“Additionally, we are extremely sensitive to the gender-disparity that can exist, especially within the world of rock and metal music and we are embarrassed and disturbed that Rosie, or anyone, for that matter, could have had such a terrible experience at one of our shows.”

You can read Boroness’ full statement via the band’s official Facebook page.

Baroness confirm details of new album, ‘Purple’

Baroness have confirmed details of their new album.

Titled Purple, it will be released on the 18th of December via Abraxan Hymns and is the follow up to 2012 LP Yellow & Green.

Says vocalist John Baizley: “After releasing a lengthy and investigative record like Yellow & Green we all felt that we needed to make something much more direct and immediate. We wanted to write with our normal focus on artistry, balanced against an increased level of energy and focus. It was important for us to write our new songs with the type of enthusiasm and expressiveness that could act as a counterpoint to the album’s dark themes.

“As a result, the music came out in an intense, heavy and sonically captivating new way, which was important, loathe, as we are, to fall into any kind of complacency pitfall or formulaic songwriting routine. Purple is the most fully realised representation of our intention as a band; considering the amount of physical and mental energy spent writing it, we have accomplished something which would have seemed impossible to us a couple of years ago.”

Purple will be Baroness’ first recording with the new rhythm section of Nick Jost and Sebastian Thompson on bass/keys and drums. The album was produced by Baroness and Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, MGMT, Tame Impala) at Tarbox Road Studios, in the secluded town of Cassadaga, New York.
