Megadeth have announced that Dirk Verbeuren has been taken on as their full time drummer.

The former Soilwork musician has been playing live with Megadeth since May as they continue their world tour in support of most recent album, Dystopia.

Verbeuren was hired in the temporary role on the recommendation of Lamb Of God sticksman Chris Adler, who played drums on Dystopia and has toured with Megadeth whenever his schedule has allowed.

Says Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine: “Chris’ contributions are sure to be felt for years to come. Megadeth has been revitalised by Chris’ playing, as well as his excellent suggestion of Dirk to drum with us.

“Tremendous thanks to Chris – and a big welcome to Dirk.”

Says Vebeuren of his new role: “Dave, David Ellefson and Kiko Loureiro, I’m thankful for your warm welcome, and thrilled at the opportunity to perform and create badass music with you. Chris, thank you for introducing me to Megadeth, and for your encouragement and support.”

Adler summarises the change of personnel thus: “It’s been an honour and a pleasure to join my favourite band of all time, and to be a part of their return to the top. I had an amazing time.

“There was no argument or drama, no hidden story. Megadeth needs and deserves a full-time drummer – and as much as I’d like to, I can’t be in two places at once.”

Megadeth are expected to release a video for their track “Post American World” in the near future after teasing it across the internet this week.

Chris Adler: Lamb Of God writing sessions have been great

Lamb Of God

Lamb Of God drummer Chris Adler says that he is impressed with the band’s writing for their 8th studio album.

The follow up to their LP, 2012’s Resolution, is expected during 2015 according to frontman Randy Blythe.

Says Adler, speaking to SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal show: “It’s great. I guess the thing that I was overwhelmed with was the idea of us taking the year off of 2014 and then have us come together basically around now and start putting things together.

“But, as usual, everybody is a little antsy and wanting to jam, and it wasn’t, like, ‘Oh, hey, Willie has an idea and Mark has this kinda cool solo thing he wants to add on top of it.’ Both of these guys came in with about 50 different song ideas.

“So what’s been great is just going through all these ideas, which are all really good, and being able to say, ‘Okay, we have this much material. Let’s pick the top 10 or top 15 or 20, and just keep working on that. Then they get upset, because number 42 had their favourite part. So, okay, grab that favourite part from 42 and let’s make song six way better. So it’s been that kind of a process as we go along.”

Lamb Of God will be returning to the UK to play this year’s Download Festival on the 14th of June.
