Megadeth have announced that Dirk Verbeuren has been taken on as their full time drummer.

The former Soilwork musician has been playing live with Megadeth since May as they continue their world tour in support of most recent album, Dystopia.

Verbeuren was hired in the temporary role on the recommendation of Lamb Of God sticksman Chris Adler, who played drums on Dystopia and has toured with Megadeth whenever his schedule has allowed.

Says Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine: “Chris’ contributions are sure to be felt for years to come. Megadeth has been revitalised by Chris’ playing, as well as his excellent suggestion of Dirk to drum with us.

“Tremendous thanks to Chris – and a big welcome to Dirk.”

Says Vebeuren of his new role: “Dave, David Ellefson and Kiko Loureiro, I’m thankful for your warm welcome, and thrilled at the opportunity to perform and create badass music with you. Chris, thank you for introducing me to Megadeth, and for your encouragement and support.”

Adler summarises the change of personnel thus: “It’s been an honour and a pleasure to join my favourite band of all time, and to be a part of their return to the top. I had an amazing time.

“There was no argument or drama, no hidden story. Megadeth needs and deserves a full-time drummer – and as much as I’d like to, I can’t be in two places at once.”

Megadeth are expected to release a video for their track “Post American World” in the near future after teasing it across the internet this week.

Dave Mustaine’s missing mother in law: body found

Dave Mustaine

The body of Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine’s missing mother in law, Sally Eastabrook, has been found.

Eastabrook, who suffered from dementia, went missing from a San Diego campsite 55 days ago. Hundreds of local people joined police in the resulting search. Her body was found by a maintenance worker approximately half a mile from where she had last been seen.

Dave Mustaine issued a statement via his Facebook page last night which read: “Yesterday evening I received a call that a person had located a body, and the investigators described our beloved mother, Sally Estabrook. Thank you all for your prayers, your good thoughts and positive vibes.”

San Diego Sheriff Officer John Maryon has said that foul play is not suspected and that an autopsy will be carried out in due course.

Megadeth: Broderick and Drover quit

Megadeth 2014

Chris Broderick and Shawn Drover have left Megadeth.

The pair released separate statements announcing their decisions, with guitarist Broderick citing “artistic and musical differences” and drummer Drover stating that he wants to pursue other musical interests.

Broderick says in his statement: “It is with great reluctance that I announce my departure from Megadeth to pursue my own musical direction. I want all of you to know how much I appreciate the amount that you, the fans, have accepted and respected me. I wish Dave and everyone in Megadeth all the best. I am working on a few things of my own, and hope that when they come out, you’ll all dig it.”

Drover’s statement reads: “I have decided to quit Megadeth to pursue my own musical interests. I want to thank Dave Mustaine and the entire Megadeth family, as well as all the amazing fans around the world. I truly appreciate all of you. Stay tuned for info on my next musical journey.”

No official statement has yet been made by the band. The split leaves frontman Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson as the only members of the group. Earlier this month Mustaine confirmed that the band were heading in to the studio in January to record their 15th album.

“We’re going to start in January. We’ll be touring in August with a very huge English metal band in the States and South America, and we’re hoping to get our record out sometime in the summer,” he said.

Mustaine in plea for missing mother-in-law

Dave Mustaine

Dave Mustaine, frontman with Megadeth, has made a public plea for help in finding his mother-in-law.

Sally Estabrook, 75, is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and hasn’t been seen since Saturday. US police have indicated that she was last seen at a campsite near her home in San Diego.

Speaking to KFMB Mustaine said: “My wife is very, very upset. With Sally having Alzheimer’s, it complicates it so much.”

Mustaine’s son Justis says: “We miss her. We want her to come back. We want to find her. She’s been out there two nights already, no food, no water, nowhere to sleep. We just hope she’s all right.”

Sally Estabrook is described as 5ft 4in tall with shoulder-length blonde hair, wearing a blueish top and white trousers. It’s thought she will answer to her name. If you have any information, you are asked to contact San Diego Sheriff’s Department on (858) 565 5200.

Megadeth’s Mustaine ordered to rest

Dave Mustaine

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has been ordered to rest by his doctor.

The band have had to cancel a string of live shows in the wake of the news, which comes as a result of Mustaine experiencing “complications” following spinal surgery back in 2011.

The cancellations include Megadeth’s appearance at Motorhead’s Motorboat Cruise. Organisers of the Florida event have confirmed that they have lined up something of a metal supergroup to fill the vacant slot however. Metal Allegiance, which includes Megadeth’s David Ellefson and Chris Broderick, alongside Phil Anselmo, Scott Ian, Mike Portnoy and Joey Belladonna, will play in Megadeth’s place.

Megadeth have said in a statement: “Due to complications arising from a previous cervical spine surgery, and upon his doctor’s strict recommendations, Dave Mustaine has cancelled all performances for the next eight weeks.”

“With rest and treatment, he is expected to recover and resume performing soon. The band was looking forward to the concerts and cruise, and is disappointed that they will not be able to see their fans. Megadeth expects to return to the road and will see their fans soon.”

Phil Anselmo, who will also perform on the cruise with his band Down said: “I always love getting together with my brothers and throwing down. The Allegiance jam is sure to be the best jam I’ve been involved with yet.”
