Martin Scorsese to direct film about the Ramones

The Ramones

Legendary Oscar winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese is set to direct a film about the Ramones.

Little more has been revealed about the project, other than it is expected to launch in 2016 – the 40th anniversary of the Ramones formation.

The last remaining original member of the group, Tommy Ramone, died earlier this year after losing his battle with cancer.

Jeff Jampol, Co-manager of the group’s estate, says a variety of projects are in the works to commemorate the band’s anniversary, including a documentary and book.

He tells Billboard: “We’re looking at a documentary on the Ramones – we just secured a tonne of footage, much of which has never been seen before.”

“You’ll see a book coming – a story of the band’s formation and those first few records and the craziness that happened. It’ll be a combination of prose, photographs, memorabilia and posters, just kind of documenting the scene.”

Jampol continues: “You’re gonna see some really interesting combinations of music, new music, remastered music and apparel. As far as apparel goes, authenticity is the foundation of everything. And luckily, when you have a genius artist like the Ramones, you don’t have to spin it.”

Foo Fighters new album artwork revealed?

Foos Crop

Foo Fighters fans have pieced together an image which is thought to be the cover art for the band’s new album.

Following the announcement that the Dave Grohl and co. would reveal some “big news” next Monday 11th August, various sets of co-ordinates were posted online via the Foo Fighters official Twitter account.

At each location a poster could be found which, when pieced together, make a larger image with a figure eight in the centre. The as-yet unnamed album will be Foo Fighters’ eighth album.

The full image contains landmarks from eight US cities: Seattle, Chicago, New York, Hollywood, Washington, D.C., Austin, New Orleans and Nashville. All are cities in which the Foos are known to have recorded when making their new LP.

The new album is due for release in November and will be accompanied by mini series Sonic Highways, which will document the recording progress. Set to air on HBO, Dave Grohl will operate as director for the show following his Sound City documentary of 2013.

Foo Fighters to release new album this autumn

Foo Fighters 2014

Reports are rife that Foo Fighters are set to release their new studio album this autumn.

The as yet untitled follow up to 2011’s Wasting Light will be released through Roswell/RCA to coincide with the airing of an HBO documentary series detailing the making of the record.

The series follows director and Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl through eight legendary recording studios in eight different cities, with the band recording songs in each location.

A press release about the series states: “One song was recorded in each city, every song featuring local legends sitting in, and every lyric written in an unprecedented experimental style: Dave held off on putting down words until the last day of each session, so as to be inspired by the experiences, interviews and personalities that became part of the process.

“Each episode delves into the singular regional identity of each city – how each region shaped these musicians in their formative years, and in turn the impact those people had on the cultural fabric of their hometowns – ultimately celebrating their common bond: Every artist that appears in the show, regardless of genre or locale, started as an average kid with the universal dreams of making music and making it big.”

Michael Lombardo, President of HBO Programming said: “Dave’s heartfelt passion for this project is contagious and his talent as a musician and filmmaker is undeniable. We are excited to go on this journey with him and the Foo Fighters for this insider’s look at how regional music inspired them to create their own new music.”
