Dream Theater share video for ‘The Gift Of Music’

Dream Theater

Dream Theater have released a video for their track “The Gift Of Music.”

The song is lifted from the band’s 13th studio album, The Astonishing, released last week via Roadrunner Records.

Said Dream Theater drummer Mike Mangini of the new double-album: “John Petrucci put together the whole thing, and he organised it in a really amazing way. And then he used our keyboard player, Jordan Rudess.

“When he plays, you see a landscape – you’ve got a picture in your mind. It’s so visual, it’s unbelievable. There really is nobody better to help bring a story to life, so you feel it and see it. It’s not something I do on my instrument. So when I experience it, it blows my mind.”

Dream Theater have previously confirmed that they will unveil The Astonishing in a live setting during their 2016 European tour. Dates begin in February with two shows in London at the Palladium theatre on the 18th and 19th.

Dream Theater stream new track ‘Moment Of Betrayal’

Dream Theater 2015

Dream Theater are streaming new track “Moment Of Betrayal.”

The song is lifted from the prog-metal titans’ new album, The Astonishing, scheduled for release on the 29th of January via Roadrunner Records.

The collection features 34 tracks split into two acts and tells a story set approximately 300 years in the future.

Says guitarist John Petrucci of The Astonishing’s inspirations: “There’s already self-driving cars that they’re experimenting with. Pretty soon, we’ll be looking back, like, ‘Oh, remember when you used to have to drive yourself?’

“Being a musician, and since music is such an important part of my life and people that surround me, I knew that music had to be a central theme. That with all the advances in technology, how music becomes less and less important and just really easy to stream and quickly listen to a song and make something up on your phone.

“As the importance kind of went away, I thought it would be really crazy and a travesty if people didn’t make music or didn’t participate in the arts anymore and it was all artificial – it was all done by machines.”

Dream Theater released a stream of “The Gift Of Music” last month and head out on tour in support of the new album in February.

Dream Theater are streaming a track from their new album.

“The Gift Of Music” is one of 34 songs set to appear on The Astonishing, due for release on the 29th of January. The album features a full orchestra, several different choirs and a range of uncommon and unusual instruments.

Guitarist John Petrucci recently told Rolling Stone of the album: “I wanted this not only to be a concept album, but a full show. We needed the storyline, a plot, places, characters, maps — you name it.

“I’m a huge fan of the sci-fi and fantasy genres, so I had a pretty good idea of where I wanted to go. But it was a matter of really diving into it and working on it, revising and revising again, and working on it every day until I had something solid.”

Dream Theater have previously confirmed that they will unveil the album in a live setting during their 2016 European tour. Dates kick off in February with two shows in London at the Palladium theatre on the 18th and 19th.
