Nightwish have released a video for their new single, “Elan.”
The promo clip comes a week after the song was leaked online prompting statements from the band describing the leak as a “huge blow.”
Says songwriter and keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen of the video: “The long awaited Nightwish music video ‘Elan’ is finally here. Inspired by the untold stories of abandoned places around Finland, the video was nearly a year in the making and features some of the most loved Finnish actors and actresses.”
The song will feature on Nightwish’s new album, Endless Forms Most Beautiful, due out on the 30th of March via Nuclear Blast.

Nightwish will play their only UK show for 2015 at Wembley Arena in London on the 19th of December.
Nightwish have shared the details of their forthcoming new album.
Endless Forms Most Beautiful will be released on the 30th of March via Nuclear Blast, with mainman Tuomas Holopainen revealing that the whole work was inspired by a quote from scientist Charles Darwin.
Holopainen quotes from Darwin’s seminal work The Origin Of Species: “There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.”
“This classic quote is where it all began. We set sail for the ultimate journey in March 2015 – join us!”
The album will be Nightwish’s first with new vocalist Floor Jansen and with Troy Donockley as a full-time member.
The album’s lead single “Elan” will be released on the 13th of February, backed by non-album track “Sagan”.
Endless Forms Most Beautiful will be available in standard CD, digibook including instrumental disc, double-vinyl gatefold, extended earbook and download formats.
Nightwish have announced that they are to release a new single in the early part of next year.
“Elan” will be released on the 13th of February via Nuclear Blast and will be the band’s first song with new vocalist Floor Jansen and now full-time member Troy Donockley.
Speaking about the track, Nightwish man Tuomas Holopainen said the song was inspired by the poetry of Walt Whitman:
“Elan is a wonderful teaser for the full-length album, giving out a little taste, but revealing very little of the actual journey of grandeur to come,” he says.
“The underlying theme of the song is nothing less than the meaning of life, which can be something different for all of us. It’s important to surrender yourself to the occasional ‘free fall’ and not to fear the path less travelled by.
“‘Oh, while I live to be the ruler of life, Not a slave. To meet life as a powerful conqueror, and nothing exterior to me will ever take command of me.’ This beautiful quote from my hero Uncle Walt was the starting point for writing Elan.”
“Elan” is set to appear on Nightwish’s new album, expected to be released next year.
