Guns N’ Roses song soundtracks emotionally-charged road safety ad

Road Safety Ad Cap 640x360

An acoustic cover of the Guns N’ Roses song “Sweet Child O’ Mine” has been used to soundtrack a brutal road safety advertisement depicting the deaths of 28 children.

The advert was made by Northern Ireland’s government to highlight the statistic that, since the year 2000, nearly 30 children have been killed by speeding motorists in the country.

The visuals are stark and shocking – so much so that the advertisement is not allowed to be shown before the 9pm watershed. But Mark Durkan, Northern Ireland’s Road Safety Minister, is unrepentant:

“The aim is to dispel, through this emotional and uncomfortable message, the false perception that many road users have as to the horrifying consequences of speeding,” he said.

A voice-over at the end of the ad states: “Since 2000, speeding has killed a classroom of our children. Shame on you.”

You can watch the advertisement below.

** WARNING: Please be aware that the advertisement contains emotionally-charged images depicting the death of young children in a motor-vehicle accident. If you feel that the advertisement might upset you, we advise you not to watch it **

Guns N’ Roses confirm two new albums are complete

guns-n-roses.

Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose has confirmed the existence of not one, but two new albums of GN’R material.

Speaking to Revolver magazine, Rose confirmed that the band have finished recording the follow up to their 2008 album, Chinese Democracy, and that a Chinese Democracy remix album is also complete.

“We recorded a lot of things before Chinese was out,” said the singer. “We’ve worked more on some of those things and we’ve written a few new things. But basically, we have what I call kind of the second half of Chinese. That’s already recorded. [The remix album has] been done for a while, too.”

Meanwhile, Guns N’ Roses are set to release a 3D concert film entitled Appetite For Democracy 3D: Live from the Hard Rock Casino – Las Vegas. The movie will be released on the 1st of July on Blu-ray and DVD. It was filmed on the 21st of November, 2012 when the band were playing a residency at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas.

Duff McKagan to rejoin Guns N’ Roses?

Duff McKaganDuff McKagan has hinted that he will join his former band, Guns N’ Roses, onstage in South America later this month.

McKagan tweeted a picture of a handwritten set list featuring Guns N’ Roses songs.

The accompanying caption read: “Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, Brazil! See y’all in the next few weeks, Si? GNR.”

The bass player officially left Guns N’ Roses in 1997, and in recent years bass duties have been undertaken by Tommy Stinson. Stinson will be unable to play the South American dates, however, as he will be joining his bandmates in The Replacements to perform a run of reunion shows, including the Coachella festival in California.

McKagan last played onstage with Guns N’ Roses at London’s O2 Arena in 2010, while his own band, Loaded, have opened shows for Axl Rose during 2011.
