Iron Maiden share ‘Book Of Souls World Tour – The Story So Far…’ video

Iron Maiden 2015 promo

Iron Maiden have shared a video summing up the first shows of their The Book Of Souls World Tour.

The band are currently circumnavigating the globe aboard Ed Force One, a 747 jumbo jet transporting band, gear and crew to concerts, piloted by Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson.

The tour follows ‘Maiden’s 16th – and first double – studio album, The Book Of Souls, released last September.

Both album release and tour dates were delayed to allow Bruce Dickinson to undergo successful treatment for cancer of the tongue. Dickinson said recently: “A year ago I didn’t even know if I could sing – we’ve had an amazing turnaround in fortune, getting rid of that, and getting out to doing the tour. Pretty much the whole of the US is sold out. It’s amazing.”

Iron Maiden are currently on the South American leg of the tour, with thrash legends Anthrax playing in support. Further dates will follow in North America, Japan, China, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Europe, including a headline appearance at this year’s Download festival at Donington – the band’s only confirmed UK date.

Iron Maiden prepare to launch ‘Legacy Of The Beast’ video game

Iron Maiden mobile game

Iron Maiden have announced that they will launch their own video game this summer.

Legacy Of The Beast is being developed for iOS and Android by the Vancouver based business Roadhouse Interactive, and 50cc Games.

Roadhouse have been given wide access to the ‘Maiden archive by the band’s management company, Phantom Music Management, with a view to delivering “an action-packed, free-to-play RPG steeped in Iron Maiden mythology.”

Says Roadhouse CEO James Hursthouse: “As a lifelong fan, I have always thought that Maiden’s music, lyrics and cast of characters would provide the perfect basis for a deep RPG experience.

“With this game we’re creating an outstanding RPG that will appeal to all mobile gamers, including those discovering Maiden for the first time.”

Players will take on the role of Iron Maiden’s legendary mascot, Eddie, with each of his different forms giving gamers a range of different powers and abilities.

Gameplay is expected to be enhanced by songs spanning Iron Maiden’s entire career, including previously unheard live recordings of ‘Maiden classics adapted for the game by engineer Tony Newton under the supervision of bassist and founding member Steve Harris.

Says Harris: “We always thought Maiden’s music and imagery with Eddie could be perfect for gaming and it’s something we have been looking at doing again since Ed Hunter in 1999. Now in 2016 it can all be done on a smartphone which makes it even more accessible for all our fans and also all the gamers out there.”

For more on the game, visit the Legacy Of The Beast official website.

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson to release memoir in 2017

Bruce Dickinson Sonisphere 2014

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson has revealed that he will release his memoir in 2017.

The ‘Maiden vocalist and songwriter is planning to pen the work whilst on the band’s Book Of Souls world tour next year. The run of shows will see Dickinson pilot the band, their crew and gear around the globe in the biggest ever version of their touring aircraft, Ed Force One – a Boeing 747.

As if being the singer for the world’s biggest heavy metal band wasn’t enough, Dickinson will also have his experiences as a commercial airline pilot, author, sword fencer and businessman to draw on, as well as his recent battle with cancer of the tongue.

Says Dickinson of the book: “It was flattering to be approached to write a book about my experiences. It seems an appropriate time to do it, as I will have plenty of time on tour to work on a book.

“I’m sure flying the 747 round the world will add to the tale with some unusual scenarios!”

The book is scheduled to be published by HarperNonFiction in 2017 as a hardback, ebook and audio book, with a paperback edition following in 2018.

HarperCollins senior editor Denise Oswald says: “Bruce might quite literally be the world’s most interesting man. Being one of the greatest rock singers of all time is merely the beginning.

“His memoir, like his voice, is sure to set a new gold standard.”

Iron Maiden’s 16th studio album, The Book Of Souls, was released in September. The band will headline next year’s Download festival as part of their supporting world tour.
