Iron Maiden brew up a stronger edition of their own-brand beer

Iron Maiden - Trooper 666

Iron Maiden have announced that they are to brew a stronger version of their own-brand beer in celebration of selling over 10 million pints of Trooper.

The new limited edition brew – titled Trooper 666 – is once again being created in collaboration with the UK’s Robinsons Brewery and, unlike its Trooper cousin’s current ABV of 4.7%, will boast an ABV of 6.6% (see what they did there?!)

Says Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson: “Our fans have been asking for a stronger brew, and it seemed only right to do this at 6.6%.”

He continues: “Despite the links with our song The Number Of The Beast, the name has come about as a result of some research by historian Terry Brighton. He’s shown there were 666 soldiers who rode in the Charge of the Light Brigade during the Battle of Balaclava in 1854 – and not just the 600 of Tennyson’s famous poem.”

Robinsons Brewery boss John Robinson says: “Trooper 666 is the same award-winning recipe, but brewed to a higher gravity. The result is another wonderfully authentic beer that’s packed with malt, but slightly sweeter than the original.”

Dickinson adds: “I think it tastes tremendous – and I personally prefer this straight from the fridge.”

Trooper 666 will be launched across the world on the 1st of October. Orders can be placed via www.ironmaidenbeer.com from that date.

Iron Maiden’s new album, The Book Of Souls, is scheduled for release worldwide on the 4th of September.

Listen to clips from Jimmy Page’s new ‘Sound Tracks’ box set

Jimmy Page - Sound Tracks

Led Zeppelin guitar legend Jimmy Page has revealed details of his new box set that brings together music he composed for films Lucifer Rising and Death Wish II, along with other archive material.

The limited edition Sound Tracks box will be released on the 6th of March and is available to pre-order now.

Three versions of the set are available via Page’s official website including CD and Vinyl editions, each featuring four discs, or a £400 limited Deluxe Edition signed by Page himself.

Speaking to Uncut magazine last year, Page said: “There’s something coming out which I’m really excited about. It’s the mix that I did [of Lucifer Rising] but I’m leaving the guitar on it, it’s got a 12 string that is the guide guitar showing me where I’m going to do the overdub. This isn’t what goes to [director] Kenneth Anger, because I didn’t want hardly any guitar at all. The mix is really really superb, I’m really proud of it. And I’ve got some experimental music that was done with bow and Theremin which is like, hang on to your seats, because it really, really is something else, it’s disturbing. I’ve got some home stuff that I did at the same studio or equipment that I did Lucifer Rising on, with sort of that whole guitar textures and overdubs. I think people want to hear that.”
