Colombian Necktie stream new song, “Sleepwalking”

Colombian Necktie

LA based sludge metal marauders Colombian Necktie are streaming a new song via SoundCloud.

Taken from their forthcoming debut album, Twilight Upon Us, “Sleepwalking” is three and half minutes of what Skin Back Alley is coming to love best about the band; a never less than engaging blend of fierce riffs, pent-up, stormy instrumental passages, and the tormented vocals of Scott Werren.

You can listen to “Sleepwalking” here.

Twilight Upon Us is scheduled for release independently on the 19th of August and was produced by Erol “Rollie” Ulug at Bright Lights Studios.

Speaking ahead of the album’s release, guitarist Juan Hernandez-Cruz said: “So much of the record is about loss and the struggle to try to cope in a city [Los Angeles] that isn’t always forgiving. The silver lining is that this experience brought us closer as friends and musically in the sense that it made us all vulnerable and forced us to really listen to each other.”

Look out for Skin Back Alley’s album review of Twilight Upon Us, coming soon.

The full tracklisting for the album is:

ALBUM COVER JPG01. “Stockholm ‘73”
02. “Guiding Light”

EXCLUSIVE! Bi:Lingual stream “Subject Number” radio edit

Bi-Lingual Live Shot

Occasionally a new band comes along with a song that slaps you upside the head with it’s passion and urgency; it makes you want to shout about it from the nearest rooftop and demand that a record label throw a wedge at it in order to make sure it’s heard; it inspires thoughts of immediately embarking upon a fevered run through the streets, yelling in people’s ears to stop what they’re doing and get with the programme. “Why are you not listening to this song? Right now?!”

Bi:Lingual are one such band, and their debut single, “Subject Number” is one such song.

Let it speak for itself via our exclusive first stream of the song’s radio edit. Click below:

It’s perhaps easy and inevitable to talk about Rage Against The Machine at this point; early adopters of the band certainly seem to be doing so. But put those thoughts out of your mind. Bi:Lingual share their rap/rock DNA, but there we’ll call a halt. These guys are a beast all of their own.

Listen carefully to Dylan Teague’s flow. It’s lyrically sharp and delivered with pin-point accuracy; yet it lays waste with the eruptive fire of a Pompeii-scale paroxysm, particularly in that roar of a chorus. It seems to these ears, too, that the particularly British pronunciation draws more on the styles explored by the UK rap and hip-hop scenes; and in the way that they rip the global talent-show trend a new arsehole, the lyrics spun in the sphere of UK grime.

The instrumentation is equally unyielding in it’s blistering incalescence; a tempestuous assault on the senses with the burning sting of a box of pissed-off hornets. The rhythm section of Aaron Lythe on bass and Stephanos Louca on drums throw it down with funk and groove that, when bolted firmly to the hardcore guitar snarl of George Louca, is blistering and thrillingly bolshy.

And, bugger me, that guitar solo! Eye-popping? Yup! Mind-boggling? You bet. Matt Bellamy eat your motherf**king heart out. And you, Chris Wolstenholme!

At this point, I would apologise for the profanity. I’m not usually prone to it. But to my mind Bi:Lingual are that good that I need to make a point. Why don’t you make one too, and buy the bloody single.

– oOo –

Alestorm Golden Age Cover 2014Scots metal pirates Alestorm are to release their new album, Sunset On The Golden Age, on the 4th of August via Napalm Records.

The band have also announced a 19 date tour in support of the release, covering much of the UK throughout October.

In a statement on their official website, Alestorm said: “It’s been over 2 years since we toured the UK & Ireland, so we wanted to make this one be a wee bit special. We’re calling this tour PIRATEFEST, and we’re going to be bringing some of our very favourite piratical metal bands from all over the world to party with us for 19 shows!”

Of the new album, they said: “The title of the album is a reference to ‘The Golden Age of Piracy’… during which time all the famous pirates you’ve probably heard of were doing their thing in the Caribbean. Stealing treasure, kicking the ass of the British Navy, plundering wenches, and so forth. Like all good things, this age had to come to an end, and so we’ve used that as a general theme for this album.”

“There’s also songs about drinking and partying too,” they continue.

Anthrax to record new drum tracks on Game Of Thrones set

Scott Ian Throne Room PicThrash fans partial to a bit of HBO smash hit series Game Of Thrones rejoice! Sort of…

Scott Ian, guitarist with thrash metal legends Anthrax, has revealed that they are planning on recording drums for the band’s new album on the Belfast throne room set of the hit TV show.

Speaking to the Metal Hammer Magazine Show on Team Rock Radio, Ian explained: “I asked Dan Weiss ‘Hey man, what would be the possibility of us recording the drums for the next album in the throne room?’ Like we bring a mobile studio and set up the drums, mic everything and record in here. He says ‘Oh my God that would be the sickest thing ever. We know the guys that can make that possible.’

“All of you out there who watch Game Of Thrones, much like me, probably think it is a very metal TV show. And just know, the reason for that is that one of the creators of it is a huge metalhead.”

Ian has previously indicated that Anthrax will release a new album in 2015.

You can hear the entire interview with the Anthrax axeman on this week’s Metal Hammer Magazine Show at 9pm, on TeamRock Radio starting at 9pm BST.
