Muse share another video! This time for new track ‘Mercy’!

Muse 2015

Muse have shared another video for a track from their new album Drones, released earlier this week.

The new clip for the song “Mercy” continues the theme of individuals losing their identity under increasing pressure from contemporary technological and political demands.

Speaking to Music Feeds, Muse bassist Chris Wolstenholme said recently that the band are very much interested in creating a musical based on the LP: “It would be great to be able to do that at some point. In the immediate future, it’s still an album that the fans haven’t heard, so all we can really think about at this point in time is getting the album out and going on tour.

“But it would be great to have it incorporated into some sort of musical or something. It would be very exciting to be a part of it.”

Muse begin a world tour in support of Drones on Friday, and will headline this year’s Download festival in the UK on Saturday.

Muse release lyric video for new track “Defector”

Muse 2014

Muse have released a lyric video for new track “Defector.”

The song if lifted from the band’s new album Drones, due for release next Monday the 8th of June.

Muse frontman Matt Bellamy explains the themes on the LP saying it explores “…a world run by drones, utilising drones to turn us all into drones.”

“It’s possible to do horrific things at a great distance – without actually feeling any of the consequences, or even feeling responsible. It’s a modern metaphor for what it is to lose empathy,” he adds.

It’s a notion backed up by a quote from US President John F. Kennedy that opens “Defector”:

“We are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence, on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice.

“It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly-knit, highly-efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.”

Drones was produced by Mutt Lange, famous for his work with AC/DC and Def Leppard amongst others. Muse will play a headline set at this year’s Download festival on the 13th of June.

Muse release video for new track Psycho

Muse Psycho vid cap

Muse have shared the first new track from their forthcoming album.

“Psycho” is lifted from parent LP Drones, scheduled for release on the 8th of June.

The track suggests that the band have very much returned to their heavy rocking ways, something frontman Matt Bellamy hinted at last year: “”We focused on things like synthesisers, drum machines and stuff. On this next album, we’re going to veer back towards musicianship again: guitar, bass and drums. It’s probably going to be a bit of a rawer album, and definitely a bit more rock, I’d say.”

You can watch the video for “Psycho” below:

Drones was produced by Robert John “Mutt” Lang, famed for his work with bands like AC/DC, Def Leppard and Foreigner, and will be preceded by a single, “Dead Inside”, on the 23rd of March.
