Boss Keloid announce new album and worldwide record deal

Britain’s finest heavy psych-proggers Boss Keloid have announced a new record deal and teased their forthcoming new album.

Following widespread acclaim for their 2016 collection Herb Your Enthusiasm, the band have signed a worldwide deal with the renowned Holy Roar Records and will release their third long-player, Melted On The Inch, in Spring 2018.

Say the band: “We are delighted to be signing to Holy Roar for the release of our new album, Melted On The Inch. They’re a progressive and passionate label with an ethos that we strongly admire and relate to, so it’s really cool that they’ve shown a great deal of interest and passion in our music. It’s an honour to join such a musically strong and diverse roster.

“For us, Melted On The Inch is a strong progression from Herb Your Enthusiasm. It draws from a much wider pond of influence than our previous. It is more progressive, more uplifting, more melancholic, more emotional, more dynamic, there is a greater emphasis on light and shade, it is heavier, it is more delicate, it has more beauty, it has more darkness.”

Check out the teaser for Melted On The Inch below.

Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real are set to release a self-titled new album on the 25th of August via Fantasy Records.

Nelson adds: “We made this record after coming off the road with him for two years. Neil’s been mentoring us, and we’ve been absorbing that energy, and I think it shows. We got acclimated to a different level of artistic expression. I wanted to get the songs as pure as they could be. We’ve grown.”

Moses Boyd announces new EP ‘Absolute Zero’

UK jazz musician Moses Boyd has shared details of his new EP.

Absolute Zero is scheduled for release on Friday the 4th of August via Exodus Records / The Vinyl Factory.

The EP will be Boyd’s second solo release and is described as “…a thrilling fusion of cosmic mind-flight above the London grime.”

Moses grew up in Catford but his roots lie in Jamaica and Dominica. While soul, reggae and classical was played at home, school was filled with the sound of the grime pirates. A drum teacher introduced him to the jazz canon; from Buddy Rich to Elvin Jones. Moses and his small band of revolutionaries started devouring and immersing themselves in the music, jamming four or five times a week, going to Ronnie Scott’s to watch legends like Wynton Marsalis, James Moody and Roy Haynes from the cheap seats behind the bar. They were injecting new blood into the form. As Moses says “when’s the last time anyone saw ten young black kids from South London watching Wynton Marsalis?”

Absolute Zero will feature four brand new compositions and is available to pre-order now in a 180gm heavyweight vinyl limited edition.

Absolute Zero tracklist:

A1. “After Tomorrow”
A2. “Square Up”
B1. “Sirens”
B2. “Absolute Zero”

Louise Distras streams new single ‘Outside Of You’

Louise Distras is streaming her brand new single, “Outside Of You.” The track is set for release via Street Revolution Records on the 26th of May.

The song is a taster of what is to come from Distras’ as yet untitled second album and the singer-songwriter says the new collection will “take my songs to a new level with harder hitting lyrics and harder hitting concepts.”

“I’m standing up for the disenfranchised kids who get picked on at school, the kids outside the box whose world has been changed by the power of music,” the Wakefield born artist continues.

“Growing up as a young working class woman in a post-Thatcher era, these songs and poems reflect that environment. The gatekeepers of the music industry have tried to call these protest songs, which is a label that I don’t understand because I’m just passing on my experience as a human being growing up in these apocalyptic conditions of unemployment and apathy.”

Premiere: Chris Milam streams brand new single ‘Kids These Days’ ahead of release

chris-milam-promo-001-web

To say that Chris Milam had a bad year is perhaps something of an understatement.

A broken engagement and a stolen car left the Memphis singer and songwriter with nothing but a bag of clothes and a lot of questions; questions he sought to answer by going in to the studio with twelve new songs and producer Toby Vest.

Saving for recording sessions over the course of a year of couch-surfing, pet sitting and troubadouring, Milam has now taken those questions born of adversity and crafted a world class set of songs for his resulting new album, Kids These Days.

This Friday, March the 3rd, sees the release of the title track as the album’s first single; a song we’re excited to bring you via the exclusive premiere below. The track exemplifies a collection of songs of nuanced emotional intensity, both in terms of their lyrical preoccupations and their compelling musical arrangements.

Beginning with just guitar and Milam’s plaintive, aching vocal, “Kids These Days” soon builds to a cathartic roar, replete with gripping and propulsive instrumentation. As Milam himself says of the track, “Kids These Days” aren’t kids anymore:

“I’ve read about my generation growing up for a long time. But we’re here — we’re in our twenties and thirties. And I know a lot of folks who, despite hard work and good intentions, aren’t where they thought they’d be. Maybe they’re even starting over. I hope that, by telling my story, other people see theirs in it.”

Turn up the volume and check out “Kids These Days” via the stream below.

“Kids These Days” is released as a single this coming Friday, the 3rd of March.

Chris’ new album of the same name is scheduled for release on the 7th of April via Namesake Records. The full track list is below.
