La Bête Blooms deliver rallying cry on new single ‘Take Arms’

Hull-based five-piece La Bête Blooms have shared their new single.

“Take Arms” acts as a rallying cry for the dispossessed, charging in on a wave of fuzzy, pulsing synths and warped, off-kilter guitar.

Skewering every-day stereotypes and lazy generalisations with pent-up energy and caustic wit, the band offer up solidarity and solace for “…all the northerners pretending to be southern, for all the business class still living with their mothers.”

“This song is for everyone. The rich, the poor, the north and south, one big messy family going down swinging”, say the band.

Check out “Take Arms” via the video stream below. The song is released today via The Adult Teeth Recording Company and is available on streaming services worldwide.

Lavender Child shares video for debut single ‘Happy Illusions’

Lavender Child, a.k.a. Toronto artist Caitlin Comeau-Jarvis, has shared a video for her new single “Happy Illusions.”

The evocative song blends alt-folk instrumentation with Comeau-Jarvis’ serene and enchanting vocals, while the accompanying video echoes themes of community, identity and a connection to nature.

“‘Happy Illusions’ was inspired from a weekend at an outdoor music festival,” says Lavender Child. “The environment alone was stunning; lush forests with enchanting art installations throughout the trails.

“The unsettling ambivalence of the place came from the juxtaposition between the people and the peaceful surroundings. My head spun from the irony both in relationships to nature and each other. I heard so many people say that they loved one another, which conceptually was beautiful, but realistically had me questioning the authenticity of the community.”

You can watch the video for “Happy Illusions”, directed by Dylan Mitro, via the stream below.

Lavender Child will continue to release new songs in the coming weeks up until the release of debut EP, Reflections.

MXMS share video for new single, a cover of Nirvana’s ‘Something In The Way’

NYC/LA funeral-pop duo MXMS have shared a video for their new single, a cover of Nirvana’s “Something In The Way.”

Vocalist Ariel Levan and pianist Jeremy Dawson’s take on the legendary Nevermind era track gives it a sparse and haunting electronic treatment, perfectly accompanied by the nightmarish, dream-like visuals of Los Angeles based indie film maker Chris Kostrazak.

Say Levan and Dawson of the single: ” ‘Something in the Way’ is our favorite piece of Kurt’s writing. The numb, submissive feeling has been glue for other frightened humans like us. Our re-creation of the song is our interpretation of Ariel’s daily cyclic journey through mental illness, depression and the drugs that sometimes work. The song is meant to postpone the inevitable face-to-face with reality that’s en route.”

You can check out the video via the stream below.

MXMS’ debut EP is slated for release in early 2018.

Premiere: Chris Milam streams brand new single ‘Kids These Days’ ahead of release

chris-milam-promo-001-web

To say that Chris Milam had a bad year is perhaps something of an understatement.

A broken engagement and a stolen car left the Memphis singer and songwriter with nothing but a bag of clothes and a lot of questions; questions he sought to answer by going in to the studio with twelve new songs and producer Toby Vest.

Saving for recording sessions over the course of a year of couch-surfing, pet sitting and troubadouring, Milam has now taken those questions born of adversity and crafted a world class set of songs for his resulting new album, Kids These Days.

This Friday, March the 3rd, sees the release of the title track as the album’s first single; a song we’re excited to bring you via the exclusive premiere below. The track exemplifies a collection of songs of nuanced emotional intensity, both in terms of their lyrical preoccupations and their compelling musical arrangements.

Beginning with just guitar and Milam’s plaintive, aching vocal, “Kids These Days” soon builds to a cathartic roar, replete with gripping and propulsive instrumentation. As Milam himself says of the track, “Kids These Days” aren’t kids anymore:

“I’ve read about my generation growing up for a long time. But we’re here — we’re in our twenties and thirties. And I know a lot of folks who, despite hard work and good intentions, aren’t where they thought they’d be. Maybe they’re even starting over. I hope that, by telling my story, other people see theirs in it.”

“Kids These Days” is released as a single this coming Friday, the 3rd of March.
