Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold working on new songs

Robin PecknoldRobin Pecknold has posted a message on Fleet Foxes’ Facebook page saying that he is working on new songs.

He reveals that the reason for the silence since the release of the band’s 2011 Helplessness Blues album is because he enrolled at university.

Says Pecknold: “For anyone who’s curious, this is a short Fleet Foxes update – been a while! So, after the last round of touring, I decided to go back to school. I never got an undergraduate degree, and this felt like the right time to both see what that was about and to try something new after a while in the touring / recording lifestyle. I moved to New York and applied to Columbia, and I’ve mostly been doing that, but I’m working on songs and excited for whatever happens next musically, even if it’s down the line. Hope all is well out there.”

Pecknold is set to appear at this year’s End Of The Road festival as part of The Gene Clark No Other Band, a collaboration featuring Beach House’s Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally, Grizzly Bear’s Daniel Rossen, former Walkmen member Hamilton Leithauser, ex-Fairport Convention member Iain Matthews and members of Lower Dens, Wye Oak and Celebration.

Unreleased Freddie Mercury songs discovered

FM5Legendary Queen guitarist Brian May has said in an interview that more unreleased music featuring Freddie Mercury has been unearthed.

Back in July Queen drummer Roger Taylor confirmed that May was working on several unfinished songs that Mercury had recorded with Michael Jackson. May was reported to have said at the time that there would be “something for folks to hear” in two months’ time.

But whilst those songs haven’t yet emerged, May has recently said when speaking with Mojo magazine, “”There’s more in there than we thought, in the Queen source archive. I’m a little nervous of saying there’s an album there, but there’s certainly a few tracks… We’ve found some Freddie vocals, some demos.”

Of the material recorded with Jackson, Taylor told Classic Rock Magazine, “”They’ve been hanging around for years and years and Michael’s estate haven’t really been able to make their mind up about what to do with them. So we suggested we finish them and see. They’re pretty good – one of them is great.”

Official release dates for any of the material have yet to be announced.
