Nightwish announce one-off Wembley Arena show

Nightwish 2015

Nightwish have announced that they will play a one-off show at London’s SSE Wembley Arena this year.

The Finnish symphonic metal band will hit the stage on the 19th of December, making history as the first Finnish band to headline the stadium.

“Who would have thought about headlining at Wembley Arena one day when we were starting our UK touring history from the downstairs of the legendary Astoria Club in London over ten years ago. This truly is a dream come true for us!” says Tuomas Holopainen, founder member and keyboard player.

The impressive support on the night will come from Arch Enemy and Amorphis, and tickets will be going on sale this Friday at 10am!

Nightwish’s new album, Endless Forms Most Beautiful, is due for release on the 30th of March via Nuclear Blast.

Nightwish reveal Endless Forms Most Beautiful

Nightwish Band Dec 2014

Nightwish have shared the details of their forthcoming new album.

Endless Forms Most Beautiful will be released on the 30th of March via Nuclear Blast, with mainman Tuomas Holopainen revealing that the whole work was inspired by a quote from scientist Charles Darwin.

Holopainen quotes from Darwin’s seminal work The Origin Of Species: “There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.”

“This classic quote is where it all began. We set sail for the ultimate journey in March 2015 – join us!”

The album will be Nightwish’s first with new vocalist Floor Jansen and with Troy Donockley as a full-time member.

The album’s lead single “Elan” will be released on the 13th of February, backed by non-album track “Sagan”.

Endless Forms Most Beautiful will be available in standard CD, digibook including instrumental disc, double-vinyl gatefold, extended earbook and download formats.

Nightwish share details of new single “Elan”

Nightwish 2014

Nightwish have announced that they are to release a new single in the early part of next year.

“Elan” will be released on the 13th of February via Nuclear Blast and will be the band’s first song with new vocalist Floor Jansen and now full-time member Troy Donockley.

Speaking about the track, Nightwish man Tuomas Holopainen said the song was inspired by the poetry of Walt Whitman:

“Elan is a wonderful teaser for the full-length album, giving out a little taste, but revealing very little of the actual journey of grandeur to come,” he says.

“The underlying theme of the song is nothing less than the meaning of life, which can be something different for all of us. It’s important to surrender yourself to the occasional ‘free fall’ and not to fear the path less travelled by.

“‘Oh, while I live to be the ruler of life, Not a slave. To meet life as a powerful conqueror, and nothing exterior to me will ever take command of me.’ This beautiful quote from my hero Uncle Walt was the starting point for writing Elan.”

“Elan” is set to appear on Nightwish’s new album, expected to be released next year.

The tracklist for the “Elan” single is:

01. “Elan” (album version)
02. “Elan” (radio edit)
03. “Elan” (alternate version)
04. “Sagan” (non-album bonus track)

Floor Jansen: Nightwish album was a challenge

Floor Jansen - Nightwish

In their latest studio update, Nightwish vocalist Floor Jansen has admitted that she has found recording the band’s new album a challenge.

The group are currently working on the follow up to their 2011 LP Imaginaerum. The new album will be the first with Jansen on vocal duties after she replaced Anette Olzon in 2012. Keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen and bassist Marco Hietala have really pushed her, she says:

“Tuomas challenged me to use everything I had to offer: high, low and soft – but definitely the lower stuff. It’s something I haven’t explored much and he wrote parts where I had to use this completely.”

“I’m very proud of it and happy I could do it this way because it’s the first time I’m singing on an album I didn’t write myself, so Tuomas and Marco wrote things that really challenged me.”

As the band move on to mixing the finished songs, Holopainen says that they are now ahead of schedule: “This session has been unbelievably smooth – we’re actually ahead of our schedule. Incredibly, Floor has sung about two songs a day, Marco cut the final bass parts in one and a half days, and Emppu did the rhythm guitars in a week.”

“I think it’s because everything was so well rehearsed and we tried to work more like a band.”

The new LP is scheduled for release via Nuclear Blast next summer.
