Opeth share lyric video for new track ‘The Wilde Flowers’

Opeth have shared a lyric video for their track “The Wilde Flowers.”

The song is lifted from the band’s forthcoming new album, Sorceress, scheduled for release on the 30th of September via Nuclear Blast.

Frontman Mikael Akerfeldt says of the inspiration behind the new record: “I’ve struggled a little bit in my relationships these last couple of years, and that has inspired me, I think, to write.

“Not that I deliberately sat down trying to write these types of lyrics. That’s literally what came out when I started trying to write.

“It’s only in retrospect that I kind of understood what it’s about.”

Be Prog! My Friend announces 2016 festival headliners

Steven Wilson

Steven Wilson and Opeth have been announced as joint headliners of the 2016 Be Prog! My Friend festival in Barcelona.

They’re being joined by the likes of Agent Fresco, Magma, Between The Buried And Me, Anneke van Giersbergen, The Pineapple Thief, Textures, Obsidian Kingdom and Exxasens.

The festival is set to take place at the Poble Espanyol on Saturday the 2nd of July. Ticket holders will also be able to attend a free show on Friday the 1st of July at the nearby Sala Apolo.

Steven Wilson, who released his latest album Hand.Cannot.Erase earlier this year to critical acclaim, comments: “This is going to be a very special day, almost like a family event for me, with so many of my friends and favourite bands appearing on the same stage, and in such a beautiful location. I look forward to getting blown off stage by Opeth and Magma as expected!”

Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt, who recently celebrated the band’s 25th anniversary and headlined the festival in 2014, states: “We’re very happy to return to the Be Prog! My Friend festival. A beautiful site, great line-up with many friends there. It’ll be a memorable event for me as a musician but also as a fan. I mean Magma, Steven Wilson, Anneke and Bruce Soord and his posse. What can go wrong? Absolutely nothing! It will be great!”

The current lineup is as follows, with more acts to be announced:

SALA APOLO, FRIDAY the 1st of July

Opeth announce 25th anniversary show

Opeth Anniversary Show

Opeth are to celebrate their 25th anniversary as a band by playing a special live show in London.

Dubbed An Evening With Opeth, the band will be playing two sets at London’s Palladium on the 18th of October. One set will be the band’s Ghost Reveries album played in its entirety, and the other a selection of songs from across the rest of the band’s back catalogue.

Says Opeth frontman Mikael Akerfeldt: “The forces that be put up a very mystical and subtle little advert on the so called internet. Yes, we will celebrate 25 years of being Opeth in 2015 and this is reason enough to gather up the forces and play. For you. At the Palladium in London. Not sure if they have a dress-code there, as it is a posh little place. Do we care? No we don’t. It will be a pretty unique evening I reckon, hopefully free of technical difficulties. No thanks to Baal! With that said, we are a live band in the true sense of the word and you can never be certain. Regardless it will be a blast and I strongly advise you to think about attending. But don’t think for too long. It might cost you your seat! We’re currently on tour (Hey! Thanks European progrockdeathmetalheads! You are absolutely fantastic and we love you!) and I’m being called for, so gotta dash. Ta-ta!”
