Maynard James Keenan: work on new Tool album ‘can’t move forward’

Unleash the memes! Work on Tool’s new album appears to have been put on hold.

Speaking to the Press Enterprise website, frontman Maynard James Keenan has said: ““We’ve found a common ground – we just can’t seem to move forward.”

Tool’s last album was 2006’s 10,000 Days. Guitarist Adam Jones previously explained that a protracted legal battle had kept the band from forging ahead with new material, but predicted that progress would be much speedier following the conclusion of the tussle.

As recently as November last year, Jones confirmed that Tool were working on as many as 20 new songs, saying: “Things are really flowing and going really well. I’m just blown away at the stuff that’s coming together. I can’t wait for it to be done.”

It seems that the wait might be a bit longer yet.

Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan is currently on tour with his other band, Puscifer, who will be heading across the ocean in May for their first ever European shows:

May 30th: Manchester Bridgewater Hall, UK
May 31st: London The Roundhouse, UK
Jun 02nd: Paris Le Grand Rex, France
Jun 06th: Lausanne Les Docks, Switzerland
Jun 07th: Milan Teatro Degli Arcimboldi, Italy
Jun 09th: Nickelsdorf Novarock Festival, Austria
Jun 12th: Brussels Ancienne Belgique, Belgium
Jun 13th: Esch Alzette Rockhal, Luxembourg
Jun 15th: Oslo Sentrum Scene, Norway
Jun 16th: Stockholm Cirkus, Sweden

Primus, Puscifer drummer suffers heart attack

Tim Herb Alexander

Tim “Herb” Alexander, drummer with both Primus and Puscifer, has suffered a heart attack.

It was confirmed in a statement that the sticksman is to undergo open heart surgery sometime in the next 48 hours.

Speaking via a short statement, Alexander’s Puscifer bandmates said: “Rough news – Tim suffered a heart attack. Global positive thoughts, por favour. We need our Herb the Ginseng Drummer aka Peter Merkin alive and thieving.”

Primus bandmate Les Claypool said: “Herb is a strong Herculean fellow, and we all expect him to be up and around in no time. But with all surgical endeavours we want to make sure he has the best energy working for him.

“So let’s all throw our coins in the nearest fountain, wish on the first star of the night, blow out the birthday cake candles with him in mind, pray to whichever deity seems appropriate and generally send good thoughts his way so we can soon experience the glory that is the magnificent percussive rhythm of the mighty Tim Alexander.”

Alexander began his third term playing with Primus last year and has appeared on seven of the band’s albums. He recorded alongside Maynard James Keenan in A Perfect Circle, playing on their Mer de Noms album, before recording parts for both of Keenan’s albums as part of Puscifer.
