Lucero team up with Charly Fasano for short film

Lucero 2015-001

Lucero have teamed up with artist Charly Fasano for a short film and multimedia project.

The Memphis band worked with Fasano on Teddy’s Bowling Alley, a short film featuring Fasano’s work accompanied by music from Lucero. The film was shot entirely on a Google tablet and features “…drawings, linocut block prints, black paint, heavy stock paper, fishing line, duct tape and a cardboard box.”

The film has been released to complement a larger multimedia project, Retrospect/ed.

Produced by Lucero drummer Roy Berry and engineer Chris Scott, Retrospect/ed features Fasano reading the poems “Gasoline Fumes” and “Teddy’s Bowling Alley” accompanied by the music of Lucero. In addition Fasano (a.k.a. “the city mouse”) has created a multimedia experience by constructing twenty-two block print illustrations and two short films that complement the poems.

You can watch Teddy’s Bowling Alley below:

Retrospect/ed includes a hand stamped and numbered 7″ vinyl record (only 500 pressed), a fifty page illustrated book and an original hand-pulled block print that appears in the book. It is available to order now via Fast Geek Press.

Watch! Protest The Hero release short film for “Mist”

PTH Vid Cap 640x360

Canadian progressive metal band Protest The Hero have released an 8-minute short film acting as a music video for their track “Mist”.

The song is lifted from the band’s album Volition, which was released independently last year, and the video pays specific tribute to the band’s fans in Newfoundland.

Protest The Hero guitarist Luke Hoskin said that the creative concept for the film came about after the band had arranged a trip to the island province in order to make the video: “It felt more like a carnival than a tour. Our motorcade invaded gas stations and rest stops along the way. When we were done, though, it felt like something was missing. We felt like we’d left out the most beautiful part of the island – the island itself! So we returned. And we made sure to capture some of our favourite spots in the St. John’s area.”

“It was an amazing feeling to make a video about the place you love the most. I’m constantly reminded of the friendships we have made there, and am ever thankful for the reception we have experienced. There’s something truly magnetic about this place – don’t go unless you plan on returning many times.”

You can watch the film for “Mist” below:

Protest The Hero will play the following live dates in the UK later this year:

Nov 25th: Southampton Mo Club
Nov 26th: Manchester Academy
Nov 29th: Belfast Limelight
Nov 30th: Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall
Dec 1st: Edinburgh Studio 24
Dec 2nd: London Koko

Springsteen releases short film for “Hunter Of Invisible Game”

Springsteen Hunter Film Cap

Bruce Springsteen has released his directorial debut – a short film to accompany his song, “Hunter Of Invisible Game.”

Co-directed by long-term Springsteen collaborator Thom Zimny, the film sees Springsteen portray a lonely, haunted survivor of an unspecified apocalyptic tragedy, wandering in woodland searching for his humanity, and remembering his friends and family in times gone by.

Rather than what may sound like a sci-fi spectacle, the film is beautifully shot, impressionistic, downbeat and entirely in keeping with the tone and texture of the song.

“For a long part of the year, Thom Zimny and I have been talking about shooting a short film for ‘Hunter Of Invisible Game,'” Springsteen said via his website. “We’ve finally got the job done, and we think it’s one of our best. Thanks Thom for the hard work and brotherly collaboration. You and your crew bring it all. And to all of you out there in E St. Nation, we hope you enjoy! See ya up the road.”

Speaking in interview with Rolling Stone, Springsteen revealed that the song had started as just a title, and only later developed into a full song after he was inspired by some apocalyptic literature.

“The idea of these travellers in the wasteland, and what’s the guy trying to do? He’s trying to hold onto their humanness, their humanity in all of this ruin. That was the idea. That’s who this guy is, the guy who is hunting out remnants of what makes the spirit. It was one of those songs that came together a certain way and I didn’t think much about it when I wrote it. I put it away. Now it’s probably one of my favorite things on the record.”

“Hunter Of Invisible Game” is lifted from High Hopes, Springsteen’s eighteenth studio album released in January of this year. The album debuted at No.1 in charts across the world. Four tracks that didn’t make the album were released separately on the American Beauty EP, which Springsteen released to celebrate Record Store Day in April 2014.

You can watch the 10 minute film via Bruce Springsteen’s official website.
