Pink Floyd break Endless River of records

Pink Floyd have broken yet another record following the release of their album The Endless River.

This time the progressive rock legends have become ‘the most viral’ artist on music streaming service Spotify with their track “Allons-y”.

In a statement revealing the news, Spotify also noted the remarkably young age of the audience:

“The band has never been more popular with us – which is saying a lot, because fans unlocked their entire catalogue by listening to Wish You Were Here over a million times on a single weekend.”

“Who’s doing all this listening and sharing? We found that Floyd skews remarkably young globally, with over 60% of its audience under 35, its strongest listening among 18-22 year-olds, and 80% of its playlisters under 34. Pink Floyd appears to be reaching a really young crowd through Spotify.”

The Endless River was crowned the most pre-ordered album in their history by Amazon UK earlier this year, and shot straight to number 1 on the UK album chart upon its release last week.

Pink Floyd were confirmed as having topped the UK album chart last night with their ‘final’ album The Endless River.

Floyd beat stiff competition from both Foo Fighters and and Queen with their albums Sonic Highways and Queen Forever. The Foos took second spot with Queen in third.

A spokesman for Pink Floyd said: “Pink Floyd is both thrilled and surprised at the level of international interest in their final album. They want to thank the fans for their support and hope that, in some small way, The Endless River has reminded them of the old-fashioned joy of listening to an album in its entirety.”

Foos mainman Dave Grohl later admitted: “If we’re going to take a number two to anybody, I’ll take it to Pink Floyd.”

The Endless River had already broken Amazon’s all time pre-order record prior to its release last week.

Pink Floyd have released a new track from their forthcoming final LP, The Endless River.

Like much of the new album – scheduled for release on the 10th of November – the track is an instrumental piece.

You can listen to “Allons-y” below:

Amazon recently revealed that The Endless River is their most pre-ordered album of all time, beating the previous record holder, One Direction’s 2013 album Midnight Memories.

Director of Amazon EU Digital Music, Steve Bernstein, said of the statistic: “Pink Floyd now have the most pre-ordered album on Amazon, which is an outstanding achievement for the band and also it proves that they remain one of the most popular groups to grace the UK music scene.”

Pink Floyd frontman and guitarist David Gilmour continues to present The Endless River as Pink Floyd’s last ever album, but drummer Nick Mason still refuses to be so definitive. Speaking with Rolling Stone the sticksman said recently: “I think I’ll let David [Gilmour] do the, ‘This is the last, this is the end’… I now believe when I’m dead and buried my tombstone will read, ‘I’m not entirely sure the band’s over.'”

Pink Floyd have released a 30 second trailer for their forthcoming new album, The Endless River. You can watch it below.

The LP, the band’s first for 20 years, is scheduled for release on the 10th of November.

In addition to the record’s cover and tracklisting, which were released earlier this week, the group published a statement via their website, revealing that the LP will include music recorded with Richard Wright, who died in 2008 aged 65.

The Endless River is a tribute to Rick Wright, whose keyboards are at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound. It is a mainly instrumental album with one song, ‘Louder Than Words’, (with new lyrics by Polly Samson), arranged across four sides and produced by David Gilmour, Phil Manzanera, Youth and Andy Jackson.”

Last year, drummer Nick Mason revealed that he would be interested in a full band reunion, including Roger Waters who left the group in 1985, but he was not certain it would ever happen.

“I would do it… I’m ready to go,” he said. “I’m packed, I have my drum kit, a suitcase and a wash bag by my front door ready for it when I ever get the call. But I’m not holding my breath.”

The Endless River tracklisting is:

“Things Left Unsaid”
“It’s What We Do”
“Ebb And Flow”
“Sum”
“Skins”
“Unsung”
“Anisina”
“The Lost Art Of Conversation”
“On Noodle Street”
“Night Light”
“Allons-y (1)”
“Autumn’68”
“Allons-y (2)”
“Talkin’ Hawkin'”
“Calling”
“Eyes To Pearls”
“Surfacing”
“Louder Than Words”
